SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Roger D. Barfield Sr., who passed away on
4 July 16, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. was born on June 13, 1945 in
6 National City; his parents were Alonzo and Burnett Barfield;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. was educated in the public
9 schools of East St. Louis, graduating from high school in 1963;
10 after high school, he joined the Marines and was stationed at
11 Quantico Marine Corps Officers School in Virginia; while at the
12 school, he joined the track team and became a 1964 Olympic
13 hopeful by clearing 7 feet in the high jump and jumping more
14 than 50 feet in the triple jump the same year; his dream of
15 becoming an Olympic gold medalist was cut short by the Vietnam
16 War; he retired from the military after 20 years of service;
17 and
 
18     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. worked for the United States
19 Postal Service, receiving numerous perfect attendance awards;
20 he retired after 20 years of service; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. loved sports and followed

1 them as closely as he could, with local sports being his
2 favorite pastime; he also coached various youth groups; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. was preceded in death by his
4 parents and his siblings, Burnett Hudson, Ray Barfield, Ruby
5 White, and Mae Byrd; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. is survived by his loving
7 and devoted wife, Jeweline; his sons, Aubrey N. (Maria)
8 Kennedy, Roger D. (Imee) Barfield, Jr., and Chad H. Barfield;
9 his brothers, Beaufus Barfield and Emery Barfield; his sister,
10 Iva Jean (Marvin) Lambert; his grandchildren, Renaldo, Zsa Zsa,
11 Bradley, Paris, and Roger D. Barfield III; his brother-in-law,
12 James (Ethel) White; his sisters-in-law, Pauline Edwards,
13 Betty Walker-Woods, Girthal (Harold) Clemons, Birthal (George)
14 McIntosh, Sue Chieke, Louise Smith, Bobby Golliday; and a host
15 of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Roger D. Barfield Sr. will be remembered by all
17 who knew and loved him as a dedicated man who took hold of life
18 and gave it his best; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21 his family and friends, the passing of Roger D. Barfield Sr.;
22 and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Roger D. Barfield Sr. as an
3 expression of our sympathy.
