| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Corethea A. Davis of Chicago; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis was born on September 22, 1945; |
5 |
| her parents were Norethea and John Floyd; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis began her life in Raleigh, North |
7 |
| Carolina, but traveled with her family to New Jersey at an |
8 |
| early age, with a subsequent move to Chicago; she accepted |
9 |
| Christ at an early age and was a member of Metropolitan |
10 |
| Community Church and the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist |
11 |
| Church; she attended Wendell Phillips High School and further |
12 |
| enriched her knowledge at a variety of institutions, receiving |
13 |
| certifications in several paraprofessional areas; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis had a long and varied |
15 |
| professional career spanning many years and many |
16 |
| organizations; she worked for the National Office of the Girl |
17 |
| Scouts of America as an Organizer and as a Clerk with the |
18 |
| Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis married her high school |
20 |
| sweetheart Michael Johnson in 1963; following their union, the |
21 |
| family moved to Burns Flat, Oklahoma; after Mr. Johnson's |
|

| discharge from the military, the family returned to Chicago; a |
2 |
| few years after the dissolution of their marriage, Corethea A. |
3 |
| Davis married Reynold Davis; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis was preceded in death by her |
5 |
| parents; and her brother, Aubrey; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis is survived by her daughters, |
7 |
| Alderman Latasha R. (Timothy) Thomas and Teresa M. Johnson; her |
8 |
| sons, Aubrey J. Davis and Michael H. Davis; her sister, |
9 |
| Starlina Floyd; her grandchildren, Victoria O. N. Thomas and |
10 |
| Timothy Thomas III; her aunt, Sylvia Bradsher; her godson, |
11 |
| Napoleon Black; her goddaughters, Denise Beaman and Zarkia |
12 |
| Smith; and many other relatives and friends; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Corethea A. Davis will be remembered by all who |
14 |
| knew her as a friendly, warm person who was able to see beneath |
15 |
| the surface of any individual and see the good that resided |
16 |
| within them; therefore, be it |
17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
18 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
19 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Corethea A. Davis; and |
20 |
| be it further
