SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Ora Dee Luckett of Chicago, who passed
4 away on June 3, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Ora D. Luckett was born in Philadelphia,
6 Mississippi on December 31, 1933 to Susie Jennings and Jasper
7 Brown; she grew up in the Deep South where she faced hardship
8 and many challenges from discrimination; she found Jesus Christ
9 early in life and by her unshakable faith found the courage to
10 navigate through such a tumultuous time; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Ora Luckett won a scholarship to Rusk College in
12 1954; in 1956 she moved to Chicago along with her family; she
13 briefly worked as a nurse's aide but eventually found her
14 calling at the Illinois Department of Public Aid; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Beginning in 1960, Ora Luckett worked and ascended
16 through the ranks of the Illinois Department of Public Aid,
17 garnering promotions and the respect of her co-workers; she was
18 later hired as the administrative assistant to the Director of
19 Public Aid, a position she held until her retirement in 2000;
20 she continued to work intermittently from her home for many
21 years after her retirement; and

1     WHEREAS, Ora Dee Luckett was admired by her family, loved
2 by many, and respected by all; Ora leaves to cherish her memory
3 her children, Anthony Brown, Corliss Paden, and Ruby Paden; her
4 grandchildren, Quincy Paden, Coreyell Brown, Brandi Brown, and
5 Robyn Meurkson; her great-grandchildren, Kylan Brown, Kaleb
6 Brown, and Kobe Brown; her niece, Laura Greer; her nephews,
7 Kenneth Brown and Gregory Greer; and a host of friends, locally
8 and nationally; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 her family and friends, the passing of Ora Dee Luckett; and be
12 it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Ora Dee Luckett as a symbol of our
15 sympathy.
