SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of George D. Hammons Jr. of Springfield, who
4 passed away on May 27, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, George D. Hammons Jr. was born in Springfield on
6 May 3, 1933, the son of Darwin G. and Faneta Thomas Hammons;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, He graduated from Lanphier High School and then
9 served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict;
10 George married Ruth Holman on June 25, 1955, in Springfield;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was a licensed barber and owned and operated
13 Hammons Barber Shop until he became a deputy sheriff; he then
14 went to work for the Springfield Housing Authority as a
15 security guard, and then retired as the Maintenance Foreman of
16 the Housing Authority in September of 2006; he was a member of
17 Fresh Vision Church and the Carpenters Union; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, and a
19 sister, Geraldine Burns; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of George Hammons Jr. will be deeply

1 felt by all those who knew and loved him, especially his wife,
2 Ruth; his son, Anthony O. (wife Terrie) Hammons; his daughters,
3 Jennifer (husband Rev. Robert) Timms and Denise A. Hammons; his
4 grandchildren, Anthony O. Hammons Jr, Akeyla Timms, India
5 Hammons, Robert Timms Jr, Tanesha Stoner, and Aiisha Stoner;
6 his brothers, Paul (wife Nancy) Hammons, Larry Hammons, and
7 David (wife Shi) Hammons; his sisters, Darlene Smith, Patricia
8 Jackson, Shirley Nicks, Claudette Bunch, and Jackie (husband
9 Albert) Chambers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins;
10 therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of George D. Hammons Jr.;
14 and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of George D. Hammons Jr. as a symbol of
17 our sympathy.
