| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Floyd Albert Thompson (aka "Uncle Floyd") |
4 |
| of Naperville, who passed away on May 3, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Floyd Thompson was born March 5, 1922, in Chicago, |
6 |
| and moved to Naperville at the age of two; he graduated from |
7 |
| Naperville High School in 1941, before serving as a radioman |
8 |
| first class in the Coast Guard during World War II; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, After returning from the War, he founded the |
10 |
| Naperville Cab Company in 1947 while attending North Central |
11 |
| College (NCC), where he received his B.A. in 1950; he received |
12 |
| his Masters of science in education from Northern Illinois |
13 |
| University in 1963; he served as director of admissions at NCC |
14 |
| from 1950 to 1964, during which time he was a founding member |
15 |
| and parliamentarian of The National Association of College |
16 |
| Admission Counselors (NACAC), and president of the Illinois |
17 |
| chapter; from 1964 to 1984, he was a guidance counselor at West |
18 |
| Aurora High School; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, He was named Naperville Citizen of the Year |
20 |
| (1991); he was a member, commander, and chaplain of American |
21 |
| Legion Post #43 and VFW #3873; he was a member of the NCC |
22 |
| Alumni Association and Phi Delta Kappa, the Naperville Area |

| Stamp Club, and was on the Advisory Citizens Committee of the |
2 |
| two local Post Offices; he participated in the Hurrah Program |
3 |
| for District #203, World War II Living History, and the |
4 |
| Shanower September 11 Memorial Committee; he was an honorary |
5 |
| lifetime member of the Naperville YMCA, serving as YMCA board |
6 |
| president, board member, and member of the International |
7 |
| Committee of YMCA World Service; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, He received a citizen's honor from the Naperville |
9 |
| Jaycees and an outstanding alumni award from NCC in 2000; he |
10 |
| loved officiating at local high school and college track meets, |
11 |
| organized a Summer Olympics program for neighborhood children, |
12 |
| and helped bring Santa Claus to Naperville families during the |
13 |
| Christmas season for many years; he devoted his life to telling |
14 |
| others about his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and |
15 |
| Savior; he was an active member of the Naperville |
16 |
| Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon, on the |
17 |
| missions committee, and Sunday School Teacher; he was also a |
18 |
| member of Gideon's International and spent over 40 years |
19 |
| helping to raise money and awareness for Wayside Cross |
20 |
| Ministries of Aurora; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur |
22 |
| and Clara (nee Holle) Thompson; his brothers, Vernon (Dorothy) |
23 |
| Thompson, Marvin (Ruth) Thompson and Allen (Laurie) Thompson; |
24 |
| his sisters, Edith (Fred Heinke) and Maybelle (Marshall Jones); |

| and his son, Jay Randall Thompson; and
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, Floyd Thompson is survived by his loving wife of |
3 |
| 56 years, Barbara Thompson (nee Irwin); his children, Nancy |
4 |
| Thompson, wife of Kenneth Frydrychowski and Richard "Rick" |
5 |
| Thompson, father of Floyd's two grandchildren, Myra and Brad |
6 |
| Thompson; and also by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and |
7 |
| friends; therefore, be it
|
8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
9 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
10 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Floyd Albert Thompson; |
11 |
| and be it further
|
12 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
13 |
| presented to the family of Floyd Albert Thompson as a symbol of |
14 |
| our sympathy.
