2 | WHEREAS, The basic freedoms that all Americans enjoy are | ||||||
3 | secured through the dedication and sacrifice of the members of | ||||||
4 | the Armed Forces of the United States; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, All of us as Americans are called to remember and | ||||||
6 | recognize the extraordinary price paid for our nation's freedom | ||||||
7 | by the selfless men and women who have sacrificed their lives | ||||||
8 | to preserve and protect our nation; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Many states have adopted the "Operation | ||||||
10 | Recognition" program to honor the sacrifices made by our World | ||||||
11 | War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans during their high | ||||||
12 | school years; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, More than 1,000,000 members of the Armed Forces | ||||||
14 | are currently serving on active duty in more than 120 countries | ||||||
15 | throughout the world; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Marine Lance Corporal Drew Uhles served his county | ||||||
17 | during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Drew made the ultimate sacrifice for his nation | ||||||
19 | while serving in Iraq on September 15, 2004; and

1 | WHEREAS, Drew suggested high schools recognize graduating | ||||||
2 | seniors who have decided to serve in the Armed Forces of the | ||||||
3 | United States; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, High school seniors entering into the Armed Forces | ||||||
5 | of the United States should be recognized during their | ||||||
6 | graduation ceremonies; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Principals Association has played an | ||||||
8 | important role in encouraging 25 schools throughout Illinois to | ||||||
9 | adopt a recognition program for future servicemen and women; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage efforts to | ||||||
13 | bring a version of Operation Recognition to the State of | ||||||
14 | Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That we support the Illinois Principals | ||||||
16 | Association in adopting a recognition program for students who | ||||||
17 | have decided to enter into the Armed Forces of the United | ||||||
18 | States; and be it further | ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the Illinois Principals Association, the Illinois | ||||||
21 | State Board of Education, and the Illinois Association of |
