| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Sherman R. Brewer of Edwardsville, who |
4 |
| passed away on May 4, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer was born on May 29, 1941 in |
6 |
| Memphis, Tennessee; his parents were Sherman Brewer and |
7 |
| Lorraine Finley; he married Diane Brewer on December 30, 1966; |
8 |
| and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer earned his Bachelor's and |
10 |
| Master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University; he received |
11 |
| a certification as a School Business Official and earned |
12 |
| significant credits towards his Doctoral degree at Southern |
13 |
| Illinois University; he retired from the Illinois Department of |
14 |
| Children and Family Services as a Regional Contract manager and |
15 |
| had previously been the Regional Assistant Director of the U.S. |
16 |
| Small Business Administration; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer loved the Lord and the Word of |
18 |
| God and was a faithful member of Christ's Apostolic Temple; he |
19 |
| studied his Bible daily and faithfully attended Bible Class and |
20 |
| church service; he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and |
21 |
| was filled with the Holy Spirit in Des Moines, Iowa; and
|

| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer was known by all who knew him as |
2 |
| an unselfish, giving, loving, comical, and caring man who |
3 |
| always tried to give helpful words of wisdom to whomever would |
4 |
| listen; he was a great husband and father who always strove to |
5 |
| provide the best for his family and for adopted family members, |
6 |
| often sacrificing his own needs; many others looked up to him |
7 |
| as a father and he was always up to the task, providing love, |
8 |
| direction, embracing people and making them feel welcome; he |
9 |
| was a man of great character and principle, always a champion |
10 |
| of doing what is right no matter how great the opposition; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer was preceded in death by his |
12 |
| father, Sherman Brewer; his stepfather, James O. Finley; and |
13 |
| his sister, Shirley Brewer Washington; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, Sherman R. Brewer is survived by his wife, the |
15 |
| Assistant to the Presiding Bishop, General Superintendent Dr. |
16 |
| Diana M. Brewer; his sons, Bishop Jason C. (Deanna) Brewer and |
17 |
| Jordan Brewer; his daughter, Elect Lady Traci S. (Eric) |
18 |
| Daniels; his grandchildren, Corissa, Jalynne Brewer, and |
19 |
| Christina Brewer; his mother, Lorraine Finley; his brother, |
20 |
| James A. Finley; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Scales; his |
21 |
| sisters-in-law, Chestine Dean, Blean Brown, and Alethea |
22 |
| Christian; and his brother-in-law, William Scales; he was also |
23 |
| a surrogate father to Ronald Dion Knight, Alethea Brown, Athena |
24 |
| Brown, Alena Brown, and Odell and Patricia Lowe; therefore, be |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
4 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Sherman R. Brewer; and |
5 |
| be it further
|
6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 |
| presented to the family of Sherman R. Brewer as an expression |
8 |
| of our sympathy.
