| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of Mary Fran Flowers of Montgomery, who |
4 |
| passed away on April 21, 2007; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Flowers was born on September 26, 1947, in |
6 |
| Chicago, the daughter of Harold and Mary, nee Behan, Tolan; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Tolan met William Flowers when he was a naval |
8 |
| cadet at the Great Lakes base, where she was volunteering at |
9 |
| the USO; they married in 1968 and moved to California for the |
10 |
| duration of his military service; when they returned to |
11 |
| Chicago, William Flowers began his civilian career as a truck |
12 |
| driver and Mary Flowers worked as a geriatric nurse in several |
13 |
| area hospitals, including Good Samaritan in Downers Grove; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, In the mid-1980s, she started the Picture Window |
15 |
| Antiques shop in Oswego; the family moved to Montgomery in 1992 |
16 |
| to be closer to the store, although it later went out of |
17 |
| business; Mary was a lifelong Democratic activist, and got |
18 |
| involved in the local political scene, winning a seat on the |
19 |
| Oswego Library District Board; her oldest daughter, Jennifer, |
20 |
| re-founded the Democratic Party within months of moving to |
21 |
| Montgomery; every member of the family has served the small |
22 |
| local party as precinct committeemen or as candidates; and Mary |
