| SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The General Assembly takes pride in recognizing |
| 3 |
| the accomplishments and contributions of Illinois officials |
| 4 |
| and citizens; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, In honor of the lasting legacy and many sacrifices |
| 6 |
| that Senator Vince Demuzio made for the citizenry of the State |
| 7 |
| of Illinois, the General Assembly would like to recognize him |
| 8 |
| with the rare honor of naming a State facility after this |
| 9 |
| former official; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Vince Demuzio was born May 7, 1941 in Gillespie; |
| 11 |
| he received a Bacehlor of Arts degree in education and human |
| 12 |
| services from the University of Illinois at Springfield in 1981 |
| 13 |
| and a Master of Arts degree in education and public policy in |
| 14 |
| 1996; he received an Honorary Doctorate from Lewis & Clark |
| 15 |
| Community College and a Doctor of Laws, Honorist Causa, from |
| 16 |
| Blackburn College; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Senate Majority Leader Vince Demuzio was one of |
| 18 |
| the most influential and highly regarded members of the |
| 19 |
| Illinois Senate; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Vince Demuzio used his influence to fight for the |
| 21 |
| interests of downstate Illinois throughout his career of public |
|
|

| service and played the leading role in securing funding for |
| 2 |
| numerous economic development and job creation and training |
| 3 |
| efforts; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Before his service in the State Senate, Vince |
| 5 |
| Demuzio served as the Executive Director of the Illinois Valley |
| 6 |
| Economic Development Corporation, which provided job training |
| 7 |
| and other services for the physically and developmentally |
| 8 |
| disabled; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Naming the Greene County Work Camp in Vince |
| 10 |
| Demuzio's honor carries on his legacy of public service and |
| 11 |
| assisting individuals with learning the skills that improve |
| 12 |
| their lives and contributions to society; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Senator Vince Demuzio made vital contributions of |
| 14 |
| service and
merit to the State of Illinois and to the State's |
| 15 |
| citizens and deserves to have his achievements noted and |
| 16 |
| remembered by current and future generations, as his memory is |
| 17 |
| now honored by the General Assembly; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |

| CONCURRING HEREIN, that we rename the Greene County Work Camp |
| 21 |
| located in Roodhouse, in honor of Vince Demuzio, as the Vince |
| 22 |
| Demuzio Greene County Work Camp; and be it further
