SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Commission to Study the Transatlantic Slave
3 Trade and its Past and Present Effects on African-Americans
4 (hereinafter referred to as the Commission) was created by SJR
5 31 of the Ninety-fourth General Assembly; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Commission was required to report no later
7 than December 1, 2006, to the General Assembly, the Governor,
8 and the general public on its activities, accomplishments, and
9 recommendations, and that the Commission was to be dissolved
10 after the filing of this report; and
 
11     WHEREAS, As of the required reporting date, the
12 Commission's work was still ongoing and further investigation
13 was needed prior to the preparation and submission of its
14 report; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
17 CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Commission to Study the
18 Transatlantic Slave Trade and its Past and Present Effects on
19 African-Americans, organized pursuant to SJR 31 of the 94th
20 General Assembly, is hereby reconstituted; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That the Commission shall be comprised of those

1 persons appointed pursuant to SJR 31 of the 94th General
2 Assembly until such time as those appointing authorities
3 established in SJR 31 appoint different persons to the
4 Commission; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That the Commission shall have the authority,
6 duties, and purposes as set forth in SJR 31 of the
7 Ninety-fourth General Assembly; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That no later than December 31, 2008, the
9 Commission shall report to the General Assembly, the Governor,
10 and the general public on its activities, accomplishments, and
11 recommendations; and that the Commission shall be dissolved
12 after the filing of this report; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 delivered to the Governor of the State of Illinois.
