|
Amends the Cook County Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that a county corrections officer who suffers a heart attack or stroke as a result of the performance and discharge of his or her duty as a county corrections officer shall be considered as having been injured in an act of duty and shall be eligible for benefits. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning public employee benefits.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Pension Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 9-156.1 as follows:
|

| (40 ILCS 5/9-156.1 new) |

| Sec. 9-156.1. Heart attack or stroke. Any county |
8 |
| corrections officer who suffers a heart attack or stroke as a |
9 |
| result of the
performance and discharge of his or her duty |
10 |
| shall be considered as having been
injured in the performance |
11 |
| of an act of duty and shall be eligible for the
benefits |
12 |
| provided under this Article to an employee injured in the
|
13 |
| performance of an act of duty or, if applicable, the benefits |
14 |
| provided in
Section 9-156.

| Section 90. The State Mandates Act is amended by adding |
16 |
| Section 8.31 as follows: |

| (30 ILCS 805/8.31 new) |

| Sec. 8.31. Exempt mandate. Notwithstanding Sections 6 and 8 |
19 |
| of this Act, no reimbursement by the State is required for the |
20 |
| implementation of any mandate created by this amendatory Act of |
21 |
| the 95th General Assembly. |
