1 | AN ACT concerning government.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Supreme Court Historic Preservation Act is | ||||||
5 | amended by changing Section 10 as follows: | ||||||
6 | (705 ILCS 17/10)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 10. Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission; | ||||||
8 | creation; commissioners; appointments; terms; compensation. | ||||||
9 | (a) The Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission is | ||||||
10 | created within the Judicial Branch of State government. | ||||||
11 | (b) The Commission consists of 9 commissioners as follows: | ||||||
12 | (1) the Administrative Director of the Illinois Courts | ||||||
13 | shall serve as a commissioner ex officio; | ||||||
14 | (2) Two commissioners appointed by the Court, one of | ||||||
15 | whom shall be designated as the chairperson of the | ||||||
16 | Commission upon appointment; | ||||||
17 | (3) Two commissioners appointed by the Governor; | ||||||
18 | (4) Two commissioners appointed by the President of the | ||||||
19 | Senate, one of whom may not belong to the same political | ||||||
20 | party as the President; and | ||||||
21 | (5) Two commissioners appointed by the Speaker of the | ||||||
22 | House of Representatives, one of whom may not belong to the | ||||||
23 | same political party as the Speaker. |

1 | (c) The terms of the initial appointed commissioners shall | ||||||
2 | commence upon qualification. Each appointing authority shall | ||||||
3 | designate one appointee to serve for a 2-year term running | ||||||
4 | through June 30, 2009, and each appointing authority shall | ||||||
5 | designate one appointee to serve for a 4-year term running | ||||||
6 | through June 30, 2011. The commissioner designated as the | ||||||
7 | chairperson by the Court must be appointed for a 4-year term. | ||||||
8 | The initial appointments must be made by January 1, 2008
within | ||||||
9 | 60 days after the effective date of this Act . | ||||||
10 | (d) After the initial terms, commissioners shall serve for | ||||||
11 | 4-year terms commencing on July 1 of the year of appointment | ||||||
12 | and running through June 30 of the 4th following year. | ||||||
13 | Commissioners may be reappointed to one or more subsequent | ||||||
14 | terms. | ||||||
15 | (e) Vacancies occurring other than at the end of a term | ||||||
16 | shall be filled by the appointing
authority only for the | ||||||
17 | balance of the term of the commissioner whose office is vacant. | ||||||
18 | (f) Terms shall run regardless of whether the position is | ||||||
19 | filled. | ||||||
20 | (g) The members of the Commission shall receive no | ||||||
21 | compensation for their service, except for their actual | ||||||
22 | expenses while in the discharge of their official duties.

24 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
25 | becoming law. |
