2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to recognize our esteemed | ||||||
4 | colleague, State Representative Milton "Milt" Patterson, for | ||||||
5 | his service and hard work on behalf of the people of the State | ||||||
6 | of Illinois; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Representative Patterson was first elected in | ||||||
8 | 2004 to serve the people of the 32nd Representative District, | ||||||
9 | which includes portions or all of the Englewood, West | ||||||
10 | Englewood, Auburn-Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing, and West | ||||||
11 | Chatham communities on the South Side of Chicago; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, During his time in the House of Representatives, | ||||||
13 | Milt Patterson fought to protect working families, senior | ||||||
14 | citizens, and the disabled; he consistently supported | ||||||
15 | increased funding for the Chicago Public Schools System, | ||||||
16 | economic development efforts, equal and affordable housing, | ||||||
17 | and job creation and retention programs; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson established himself as a leading | ||||||
19 | voice for the State's elderly population; he helped expand | ||||||
20 | prescription drug assistance for senior citizens, opposed | ||||||
21 | efforts to privatize Social Security, and maintained a | ||||||
22 | constituent service office that was always available to help |

1 | senior citizens get the help they needed; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson strongly supported the efforts of | ||||||
3 | the Hospitality Academy at McCormick Place, which provides | ||||||
4 | local residents with employment opportunities and thriving | ||||||
5 | careers in the hospitality industry; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, After experiencing his own health challenges, | ||||||
7 | Milt Patterson courageously and tirelessly worked to | ||||||
8 | rehabilitate himself and became a strong advocate for the | ||||||
9 | rights of the disabled, particularly for those suffering | ||||||
10 | temporary disabilities as the result of a medical condition; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson previously served as Chief | ||||||
13 | Electrical Inspector and Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago | ||||||
14 | Department of Buildings and as the 17th Ward Committeeman; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson is a certified licensed | ||||||
16 | electrician, a licensed real estate broker in the State of | ||||||
17 | Illinois, and serves as an Adult Education Professor at Kennedy | ||||||
18 | King College; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson earned a Bachelor of Science degree | ||||||
20 | from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Public | ||||||
21 | Administration from the University of Illinois, and holds an |

1 | Electrical Engineering Degree from Chicago Technical College; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson is a member of the Illinois | ||||||
4 | Legislative Black Caucus; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Because of Milt Patterson's efforts, community | ||||||
6 | organizations in the 32nd Representative District received new | ||||||
7 | State funding for after school programs, planning and community | ||||||
8 | development, and welfare-to-work efforts; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson is deeply committed to helping | ||||||
10 | those in need in his district; his office donated clothing | ||||||
11 | items to help fire victims and hosted events to help parents | ||||||
12 | who were having trouble collecting child support payments; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson served as Vice-Chairman of the | ||||||
14 | Computer Technology Committee, and as a member of the | ||||||
15 | Appropriations-Human Services, Appropriations-Public Safety, | ||||||
16 | and the Electric Utility Oversight committees; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson believes in the importance of | ||||||
18 | inspiring young people to achieve success; he is a strong | ||||||
19 | supporter of the Young Eagles program, which seeks to encourage | ||||||
20 | youngsters' interest in aviation by introducing them to | ||||||
21 | airplanes and taking them on free flights; and

1 | WHEREAS, Milt Patterson is admired by his friends, family, | ||||||
2 | and constituents for his strong work ethic, his dedication to | ||||||
3 | his community, and his belief that we, as citizens, have a | ||||||
4 | responsibility to work together for a better future; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Patterson will be remembered by | ||||||
6 | the citizens of the 32nd Representative District and the | ||||||
7 | members of the Illinois House of Representatives as a | ||||||
8 | thoughtful, hard-working, and civic-minded advocate for | ||||||
9 | improving the quality of life for all Illinoisans; therefore, | ||||||
10 | be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
12 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
13 | congratulate Representative Milton "Milt" Patterson on his | ||||||
14 | retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives and wish | ||||||
15 | him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to State Representative Milton "Milt" Patterson as a | ||||||
18 | symbol of our respect and esteem.
