2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jim DeLuca on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of being the recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year | ||||||
5 | Award from the Italian American Executives of Transportation; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca was born in Chicago to Antonio and | ||||||
8 | Assunta DeLuca; both of his parents immigrated to the United | ||||||
9 | States from Calabria, Italy in September of 1928; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca served his country with honor and | ||||||
11 | distinction as a member of the United States Armed Forces | ||||||
12 | during the Korean Conflict, serving 14 months in Korea from | ||||||
13 | 1951 until 1953; after his honorable discharge from the Army, | ||||||
14 | he married Lena Lasorsa; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1961, Jim DeLuca went into the grocery | ||||||
16 | business, opening Mayfair Foods in Franklin Park; he also had a | ||||||
17 | brief stint in the catering business and owned the famous | ||||||
18 | slides and batting cages on Lake Street; after retiring in | ||||||
19 | 1991, he decided to devote his time and energy helping children | ||||||
20 | and seniors with various community projects; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca is one of the founders of the Americans |

| |||||||
1 | of Italian Descent of DuPage County, which was founded in 1978; | ||||||
2 | the organization seeks to aid those in need, including children | ||||||
3 | with disabilities and senior citizens, as well as awarding | ||||||
4 | scholarships and donating items to the Pantry, a community | ||||||
5 | organization that gives food and assistance to families in | ||||||
6 | need; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca is proud to be a full-blooded | ||||||
8 | Calabrese, with his heritage leading him to join the Calabrese | ||||||
9 | in America Organization, a group that holds many functions that | ||||||
10 | celebrate Italian and Calabrese culture and raise funds for | ||||||
11 | charities; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca is a very active member of the Italian | ||||||
13 | American Executives of Transportation, which seeks to donate | ||||||
14 | scholarships, support educational programs, and assist other | ||||||
15 | organizations to enhance the Italian image in the community; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca is well known among his peers for his | ||||||
18 | passionate work on the behalf of children with disabilities; he | ||||||
19 | is an enthusiastic supporter, fundraiser, and active member of | ||||||
20 | the Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities, a group | ||||||
21 | that has helped countless numbers of disabled children and | ||||||
22 | their families; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Jim DeLuca's work with disabled children and his | ||||||
2 | willingness to help those in need make him worthy of both the | ||||||
3 | Humanitarian of the Year Award and the respect of the people of | ||||||
4 | the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
7 | congratulate Jim DeLuca on the occasion of being the recipient | ||||||
8 | of the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Italian American | ||||||
9 | Executives of Transportation and wish him continued success and | ||||||
10 | happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Jim DeLuca as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
