HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard
4 G. "Spunky" Patton Jr. of West Frankfort, who passed away on
5 November 9, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was born on August 21, 1945 in
7 West Frankfort; his parents were L. Goebel Patton and Eileen H.
8 Howell; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was a graduate of Southern
10 Illinois University; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was the owner and operator of
12 the Howell Insurance Agency in West Frankfort, which was
13 founded in 1914; a member of the third generation of the
14 family-owned agency, he became fully involved in the business
15 in the early 1970s; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. served his country with pride
17 and distinction as a member of the United States Army; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was an avid supporter of youth
19 and Redbird athletics; the youth tackle program Mr. Patton
20 helped to create enjoyed its inaugural season in the fall of

1 1974 and lasted for ten years, before he helped to bring it to
2 life once more in the late 1990s; he also coached girl's
3 softball in tandem with Frankfort Community Park legend Bill
4 McKee and helped bring about a grade school flag football
5 program in the mid 1990s; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. is survived by his wife, Susan;
7 his sons, Jason Patton and Ryan Patton; his daughters, Trish
8 Blank and her husband, Bill, and their children, Ria and
9 William, and Torie Patton; his father, L. Goebel Patton; and
10 his sister, Penelope Tippy and her husband, Roger; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was preceded in death by his
12 mother, Eileen Lucas, and his sister, Colleen Hickey;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
17 Leonard G. "Spunky" Patton Jr.; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Leonard Patton Jr. as an expression
20 of our sympathy.
