HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Private First Class Leonard J. Gulczynski of Carol
5 Stream, who was killed while serving his country in Iraq on
6 September 17, 2008; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was assigned to 610th Engineer Support Company,
8 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade; the company
9 deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March of
10 2008; Private Gulczynski initially entered military service on
11 June 7, 2007; after completing advanced individual training in
12 his military occupational specialty of 21E: Heavy Construction
13 Equipment Operator at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he reported
14 to Fort Lewis on November 21, 2007; and
 
15     WHEREAS, His civilian education includes his graduation
16 from Spring Trail Elementary School in Carol Stream, Eastview
17 Middle School, and Bartlett High School in 2007; his military
18 awards and decorations include the National Defense Service
19 Medal and the Army Service Ribbon; and
 
20     WHEREAS, After high school he followed the example of his
21 grandfather and father and joined the United States Army; he
22 was described as an outgoing young man with a great laugh and

1 great smile; and
 
2     WHEREAS, He excelled at volleyball and football while a
3 student at Bartlett High School; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Private Leonard Gulczynski is survived by his
5 parents, Mike and Jackie Gulczynski; his sister, Jacki; and his
6 brother, Mike Jr.; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 honor the memory of United States Army Private First Class
10 Leonard J. Gulczynski and his willingness to serve his country,
11 which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it
12 further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of United States Army Private First
15 Class Leonard J. Gulczynski as a symbol of our sympathy and our
16 respect.
