2 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin was willed a tract of land in | ||||||
3 | far west Elgin in 1902; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin built a golf course on this land | ||||||
5 | in 1908, naming it Wing Park Golf Course; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin opened the golf course for | ||||||
7 | public play in 1908; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has continuously owned and | ||||||
9 | operated the golf course since 1908; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has named the golf course The | ||||||
11 | Wing Park Golf Course; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The Wing Park Golf Course is the oldest nine-hole | ||||||
13 | municipal golf course in the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The Wing Park Golf Course hosted the Illinois | ||||||
15 | National Guard Encampment in 1909 and 1911; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin Historic Commission has | ||||||
17 | recognized the Wing Park Golf Course as a Historic Place; and

1 | WHEREAS, The National Registry of Historic Places has | ||||||
2 | recognized the Wing Park Golf Course as a National Historic | ||||||
3 | Place; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin continues to maintain the Wing | ||||||
5 | Park Golf Course for the use and benefit of citizens throughout | ||||||
6 | the northeastern Illinois region; therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
9 | congratulate the City of Elgin on the occasion of the 100th | ||||||
10 | anniversary of the Wing Park Golf Course and offer our best | ||||||
11 | wishes for the course's continued success; and be it further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to City of Elgin Mayor Edward Schock as a symbol of | ||||||
14 | our esteem and respect.
