1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor the administration and | ||||||
4 | staff of the "A Place for Me" not-for-profit foundation for | ||||||
5 | their work in providing services to families and support for | ||||||
6 | children affected by autism; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, "A Place for Me" was founded by Elaine | ||||||
8 | Reeves-Haywood in June of 2002; with very few resources or | ||||||
9 | information available in her community to insure a good | ||||||
10 | education, after school programs, recreation, or summer | ||||||
11 | programs for her son, who is autistic, she created the | ||||||
12 | foundation in order to help provide the tools, programs, and | ||||||
13 | services that her son and other children with autism could | ||||||
14 | benefit from; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The goal of the "A Place for Me" foundation is to | ||||||
16 | provide services to families and support for the children | ||||||
17 | affected by autism through numerous methods, including support | ||||||
18 | for ongoing parent/child issues, the voicing of concerns for | ||||||
19 | autism related issues, the availability of the foundation as a | ||||||
20 | community resource, training and support on various autism | ||||||
21 | related topics, educational assistance to regular and special | ||||||
22 | education students, assisting with the creation and | ||||||
23 | utilization of visual supports to enhance the learning style of |

1 | students, the use of social stories and role playing for | ||||||
2 | teaching social concepts, and increasing awareness of the | ||||||
3 | various laws and the rights of parents; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, "A Place for Me" has put forth great time and | ||||||
5 | effort in raising awareness of autism within their community | ||||||
6 | through education workshops, IEP support, and individual | ||||||
7 | parent training sessions with visual aids; the foundation has | ||||||
8 | also sponsored family outings to promote awareness, widen the | ||||||
9 | inclusion and social interaction of autistic children, and to | ||||||
10 | create environments where autistic children can feel | ||||||
11 | comfortable; the foundation has also made a long-term goal to | ||||||
12 | have a community center that will provide for after school | ||||||
13 | programs, social skills programs, and a site where workshops | ||||||
14 | for parents can be conducted; and

15 | WHEREAS, The work that Elaine Reeves-Haywood and the "A | ||||||
16 | Place for Me" foundation have done to raise awareness of autism | ||||||
17 | and to ensure that these afflicted children have the education | ||||||
18 | and care that they deserve is worthy of the greatest respect; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
22 | honor the administration and staff of the "A Place for Me" | ||||||
23 | not-for-profit foundation for their work and wish them |

1 | continued success in their future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to Elaine Reeves-Haywood as a symbol of our esteem | ||||||
4 | and respect.
