HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Millions of patriots have served in the Armed
3 Forces of the United States of America during the past century;
4 thousands of these patriots made the supreme sacrifice for our
5 nation during their call to duty, yet many of them have
6 received little honor from this nation for their brave and
7 heroic contributions; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The sacrifices of these men and women who have
9 served in the Armed Forces have been vital in preserving the
10 freedoms and way of life enjoyed by the people of this nation
11 today; and
 
12     WHEREAS, During times of emergency, these honorable and
13 courageous heroes have stepped forward to serve our country by
14 placing the welfare of the nation before their own lives; these
15 veterans have not only guaranteed liberty and peace for the
16 citizens of the United States, but have sought to establish
17 these qualities for other nations throughout the world; and
 
18     WHEREAS, There has been a decrease in awareness and
19 importance placed on the accomplishments of those who served in
20 the Armed Forces, despite the efforts of the Department of
21 Veterans' Affairs and veterans' service organizations; it is
22 essential that the future leaders of our nation recognize the

1 history of military action, as well as the accompanying
2 contributions and significant sacrifice made by all veterans
3 who have provided dedicated service and protection for this
4 nation and its citizens; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 recognize August 29, 2008 as Veterans' Awareness Day in the
8 State of Illinois and encourage the citizens of this State to
9 reflect upon the service that veterans have given to ensure the
10 well-being of our State and country; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to John Monoghan, the organizer of Veterans'
13 Awareness Day, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
