HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Brooke Tippet 
4
Thompson on the occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching 
5
Award; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Golden Apple Teaching Award was created in 
7
1985 to honor outstanding Chicago-area teachers; the program 
8
has grown into an institution that continues to recognize 
9
gifted teachers, as well as prepare and strengthen teachers who 
10
make a critical difference in the lives of all children, 
11
particularly those from disadvantaged schools; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Brooke Tippet Thompson has been teaching 
13
Kindergarten through eighth grade music
at the Pierce School of 
14
International Studies in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood 
15
for the past 10 years; a former opera singer, she uses music to 
16
reinforce lessons in language arts, math, and science; she also 
17
holds national certification for teaching music; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, For winning the Golden Apple Teaching Award, 
19
Brooke Tippet Thompson will receive a tuition-free spring-term 
20
sabbatical at Northwestern University, a personal computer 
21
from IBM, $3,000, and membership into the Golden Apple Academy 
22
of Educators; and

    WHEREAS, Brooke Tippet Thompson serves as a model of hard 
2
work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
3
Illinois; therefore, be it

 
4
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate Brooke Tippet Thompson on occasion of winning a 
7
Golden Apple Teaching Award and wish her continued success in 
8
the future; and be it further

 
9
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to Brooke Tippet Thompson as a symbol of our esteem 
11
and respect.
