HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Donnell White on 
4
the occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award; and


 
5
    WHEREAS, The Golden Apple Teaching Award was created in 
6
1985 to honor outstanding Chicago-area teachers; the program 
7
has grown into an institution that continues to recognize 
8
gifted teachers, as well as prepare and strengthen teachers who 
9
make a critical difference in the lives of all children, 
10
particularly those from disadvantaged schools; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Donnell White teaches seventh and eighth grade 
12
math at Clark Academic Preparatory Magnet High School on the 
13
West Side of Chicago; he carefully considers the teaching 
14
methods he uses to accommodate different learning styles in his 
15
classroom and has created an organization called Proud Young 
16
Men to help his male students overcome academic apathy; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, For winning the Golden Apple Teaching Award, 
18
Donnell White will receive a tuition-free spring-term 
19
sabbatical at Northwestern University, a personal computer 
20
from IBM, $3,000, and membership into the Golden Apple Academy 
21
of Educators; and

    WHEREAS, Donnell White serves as a model of hard work, 
2
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
3
Illinois; therefore, be it

 
4
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate Donnell White on occasion of winning a Golden 
7
Apple Teaching Award and wish him continued success in the 
8
future; and be it further

 
9
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to Donnell White as a symbol of our esteem and 
11
respect.
