| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald |
4 |
| Woods, who recently passed away; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Donald Woods was born March 19, 1950 in Chicago to |
6 |
| the late Elder James Lee and Willie Rosene Woods; Donald and |
7 |
| his twin Ronald were the 9th and 10th of the 17 children born |
8 |
| to this union; his twin, Ronald Woods, lived to the age of 15 |
9 |
| months old and preceded him in death; his sister, Clara Smith, |
10 |
| also preceded him in death; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Donald was born into the Philadelphia Church of |
12 |
| God in Christ where his grandfather was a member; he later |
13 |
| united and became a charter member of the New St. Mary Church |
14 |
| of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Harrison Bolton |
15 |
| and later joined the St James Church of God in Christ under the |
16 |
| leadership of Elder Willie J. Campbell; Donald served |
17 |
| faithfully as a Deacon at St. James and was committed to his |
18 |
| church; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Donald received his education in the Chicago |
20 |
| Public Schools attending Robert Burns Elementary, Farragut, |
21 |
| and Prosser High Schools; he furthered his education by also |
22 |
| attending and completing classes towards his engineering |
|
|

| degree at Wright Junior College;
Donald was first and foremost |
2 |
| a dad; three of his nine children preceded him in death, Ronald |
3 |
| Flowers, Donald Flowers, and Ronald Woods; in July 1986, while |
4 |
| working at Hefferan Elementary, Donald became acquainted with |
5 |
| Mr. John Eggleston, a resident of the block and was introduced |
6 |
| to Mr. Egggleston's daughter, Joyce; Donald married the love of |
7 |
| his life, Joyce Ann Woods on July 22, 1997; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Donald worked in various capacities for the |
9 |
| Chicago Board of Education, ranging from custodian to his last |
10 |
| position of Chief Engineer for Bouchet Academy; this includes |
11 |
| his tenure at the following schools: Charles E. Hughes, Mason |
12 |
| CPC, Helen M. Hefferan, DuSable HS, Leif Erickson Academy, |
13 |
| Oscar Mayer, Sumner Academy, Nathan Goldblatt, and Bouchet |
14 |
| Academy; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, Donald served as an Alcohol and Addiction |
16 |
| Counselor for Lutheran Family Services for 21 years; he was a |
17 |
| member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 22 1/2 years; his |
18 |
| affiliations include the following clubs and organizations: |
19 |
| Wanderers 37, Evans Avenue, West Section Club, Real Folks, AA |
20 |
| in Search of Serenity, Farragut HS Alumni Reunion Committee, |
21 |
| and the "HitMen" softball team; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Donald was a dedicated husband, father, |
23 |
| grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend; he leaves to |
|

| celebrate his transition, his wife Joyce; his children, |

| Chrisonia (Robert) Butler, LayShonne (John) Quinn, Tracey |

| godson, Patrick J. Brooks; his grandchildren, Tatiara Flowers, |

| Jhonne Quinn, Derrick Moore, Jr., Tamya Hubbard, Shakira |

| Robinson, Mandizaya (Ziggy) Robinson, Diamani Woods, and |
7 |
| Morgan Butler; his father-in-law, John Eggleston; his |

| siblings, Rosie Evans, Doris (Clifford) Lauderdale, James |

| Woods, Jr., Susie Norris, Mary (George) Lowery, Ruth Griffith, |
10 |
| Marvin Woods, Beverly Towner, Linda Woods, Rosalyn Woods, |
11 |
| Rosetta Jackson, Michael Woods, Gerald Woods, and Mark Woods; |
12 |
| his four aunts, Sarah Johnson, Dorothy Agers, Audrey Woods, and |
13 |
| Flossie Carruthers; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and |
14 |
| many, many friends; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 |
| mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Donald |
18 |
| Woods; and be it further
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to the family of Donald Woods as a symbol of our |
21 |
| sympathy.
