HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the organizers and
4 participants of the Fiesta Salsa celebration in Elgin on the
5 occasion of the celebration's 10th anniversary; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The first Fiesta Salsa was held on September 25,
7 1999 at the Civic Center Plaza in downtown Elgin in conjunction
8 with the long-running Hispanic Heritage Parade, which was
9 formerly known as Fiesta Patrias; the original organizers of
10 Fiesta Salsa included members from the Hispanic Heritage Parade
11 Committee, the Downtown Neighborhood Association, Elgin
12 Community College, and the City of Elgin; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The goals of Fiesta Salsa is to unite the diverse
14 peoples of Elgin, bridge cultural differences, educate the
15 Elgin community about the unique Hispanic cultures, and
16 celebrate the diversity that makes Elgin a great place to live;
17 and
 
18     WHEREAS, Fiesta Salsa is held annually on a Saturday during
19 Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15, and
20 has featured many events over the years, including Salsa
21 Making, Salsa Dancing and Jalapeņo Eating contests, programs
22 for children, cultural entertainment, and ethnic food vendors;

2     WHEREAS, Fiesta Salsa would not be possible without the
3 extraordinary efforts of hundreds of volunteers led by the
4 Hispanic Heritage Coalition, who work countless hours to make
5 the event a success; their efforts continue to make a
6 significant difference for the people of Elgin; therefore, be
7 it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate the organizers and participants of Fiesta Salsa in
11 Elgin on the occasion of its 10th anniversary and wish them
12 continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the Hispanic Heritage Coalition as a symbol of our
16 esteem and respect.
