| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of |
4 |
| Chapin as they celebrate the sesquicentennial of the village; |
5 |
| and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, In September of 1848, Horace Chapin came from |
7 |
| Massachusetts and settled in Morgan County; he wrote his |
8 |
| brother, Lyman, back east and told him to move the family to |
9 |
| Morgan County, and they arrived in November of 1848; they spent |
10 |
| their first winter in Jacksonville, and in the spring bought |
11 |
| the Seth Wetherbee farm; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, The brothers were later joined by their mother and |
13 |
| younger brothers; the brothers later decided to lay out a town |
14 |
| near the Wabash railroad, and asked the superintendent of the |
15 |
| Wabash line what they should name the community; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He promptly said "Chapin" and the little village |
17 |
| was born; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The citizens of Chapin will celebrate the |
19 |
| sesquicentennial of the village during Chapin Big Country Days |
20 |
| in August of 2008; therefore, be it
