2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Steve | ||||||
4 | Stromquist of Durand, who passed away on May 22, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was born on August 22, 1955 in | ||||||
6 | Rockford; he was the son of John and Marian (Holmer) | ||||||
7 | Stromquist; he married the former Susan K. Norman on July 9, | ||||||
8 | 1983 in Fulton; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist graduated from Durand High | ||||||
10 | School with the class of 1974; he played football, baseball, | ||||||
11 | basketball, track, and was all-state in football in his junior | ||||||
12 | year; he was awarded for citizenship, leadership, and community | ||||||
13 | service by the 4-H Key Club in 1973 and was honored as a top 4-H | ||||||
14 | Boy in 1974; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist graduated from Illinois State | ||||||
16 | University with a bachelor of science degree in 1978; he earned | ||||||
17 | his master of science degree in 1980 from Ohio State | ||||||
18 | University; in 1981, he performed advance graduate work at | ||||||
19 | Northern Illinois University; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was employed as a science teacher | ||||||
21 | with the Hononegah School District since 1981; he also coached |

| |||||||
1 | high school football and girls softball and received several | ||||||
2 | Coach of the Year awards; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, As Hononegah's 13-year football coach, he led the | ||||||
4 | team to a 76-51 record from 1992-2004; he coached five playoff | ||||||
5 | teams, including Hononegah's 1996 team that went undefeated in | ||||||
6 | the NIC-9, reached the Class 5A semifinals, and finished 12-1; | ||||||
7 | and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was an adviser of the Fellowship | ||||||
9 | of Christian Athletes and was a former adviser of Future | ||||||
10 | Farmers of America; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist enjoyed cooking, gardening, | ||||||
12 | fishing, golfing, and his dogs; he was an avid fan of Ohio | ||||||
13 | State University, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was a member of Prince of Peace | ||||||
15 | Lutheran Church in Rockton; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, In partnership with his father, Steve Stromquist | ||||||
17 | raised and bred Columbia and Katahdin hair sheep on White Post | ||||||
18 | Farm; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was preceded in death by his | ||||||
20 | grandparents and his nephew; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist is survived by his wife, Susan; | ||||||
2 | his parents; his sisters, Jill (Rich) Schraiber and Karen | ||||||
3 | Sargent; his niece, Annika Sargent; his nephew, Jon Sargent; | ||||||
4 | and his several aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
7 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Steve | ||||||
8 | Stromquist; and be it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Steve Stromquist as an expression of | ||||||
11 | our sympathy.
