HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Arthur
4 Richoz of Elgin, who passed away on May 18, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz was born in October of 1922; he
6 married Elinor Radde on December 19, 1942; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz served his country with pride and
8 distinction as a member of the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th
9 Division of the United States 7th Army during World War II;
10 after several automatic deferments due to his job, he joined
11 the service in July of 1944 and became a member of the famed
12 "Thunderbirds"; the combat wounds he suffered while serving in
13 the European theater earned him the nickname of "Purple Heart
14 Art"; in addition to his Purple Heart, he was also the
15 recipient of the Bronze Star and 6 other medals; following his
16 tour of duty, he became a staunch supporter of veterans' causes
17 and maintained close ties to veterans from World War II to the
18 Iraqi war; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz was employed as a tool and die maker
20 with the Illinois Watch and Case Factory before World War II;
21 after the war, he worked briefly at International Harvester,
22 where he was involved in the construction of one of the largest

1 crawler tractors ever built; he then took a tool and die job
2 with McDonough Manufacturing in Elgin, where worked on a
3 component for the Mercury space program; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz is survived by his wife of 65 years,
5 Elinor; his son, Archie; his daughter, Pamela; and his four
6 grandchildren; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Arthur Richoz will be remembered by all who knew
8 and loved him as a friendly and neighborly man who always
9 wanted to be with people; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Arthur
13 Richoz; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Arthur Richoz as an expression of
16 our sympathy.
