| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Aurora Police |
| 4 |
| Chief Bill Powell on his retirement, April 14, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, A Chicago native, Bill Powell joined the Aurora |
| 6 |
| department in December 1977; he was promoted to sergeant in |
| 7 |
| 1993, lieutenant in 2000, and commander in 2005; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He worked as a patrolman in the community for |
| 9 |
| twelve years; he was assigned to specialized units for nine |
| 10 |
| years; and he supervised special operations groups; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He was both the first African-American sergeant |
| 12 |
| and the first African-American lieutenant in the Aurora Police |
| 13 |
| Department; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, |
| 15 |
| serving during the Vietnam era; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Chief Powell and his wife reside in Aurora and are |
| 17 |
| proud parents and grandparents; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
