HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Al Hill, Director
4 of Parks for Zion, on his retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He is a native of Hammond, Indiana, and attended
6 Bishop Noll High School in East Chicago, Indiana; he attended
7 Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa from 1968 to 1970; he served in
8 the United States Army from 1970 to 1972; he received his
9 Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1975 and
10 his Masters of Science degree from Indiana University in 1976;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was Zion Park District Ice Arena Manager from
13 1976 to 1978, Superintendent of Recreation from 1978 to 1981 in
14 Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Director of Parks & Recreation for
15 the Zion Park District from 1981 until his retirement on April
16 24, 2008; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Significant achievements while Mr. Hill served as
18 Director include the initiation of the Annual Festival of
19 Lights in Zion, the renovation of Port Shiloh Swimming Pool,
20 the initiation and guiding of the vision, planning, and
21 acquisition of the site, construction, and operation of
22 Shepherd's Crook Golf Course, the installation of the

1 irrigation system at Shiloh Park Golf Course, the overseeing of
2 the acquisition of more than 140 acres of additional park land
3 and open space, and obtaining more than $1 million in State and
4 federal grant monies; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He is a founding member of the Coalition for
6 Healthy Communities, a member of the Board of Directors for the
7 Zion Area Chamber of Commerce, serving two terms, a member of
8 the Zion Economic Development Corporation, a member of the Zion
9 TIF Board, a member of the Lake County Public Water District
10 Board, and a member of the Illinois Park & Recreation
11 Association and the National Recreation & Park Association; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Hill plans to spend his retirement traveling,
13 including a special trip to Southeast Asia; he also plans to
14 spend time with his grandchildren and family; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 congratulate Mr. Hill and wish him the best in his future
18 endeavors; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Al Hill as a symbol of our respect.
