| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Kathleen McGlynn, an esteemed resident of |
3 |
| Belleville and an exceptional student at Althoff Catholic High |
4 |
| School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary |
5 |
| volunteer service by receiving a 2008 Prudential Spirit of |
6 |
| Community Award; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential |
8 |
| Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
9 |
| Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
10 |
| America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to |
11 |
| serving their communities; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Kathleen McGlynn earned this award by giving |
13 |
| generously of her time and energy to create more than 100 |
14 |
| recipes for children with common stomach disorders, compiling |
15 |
| many of them in a cookbook titled "Yummies for Sensitive |
16 |
| Tummies"; she also designed a website to educate children with |
17 |
| sensitive stomachs about healthy food and lifestyle choices; |
18 |
| and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Inspired by her sister's digestive problems, and |
20 |
| her own struggles with back pain, Kathleen McGlynn experimented |
21 |
| with different foods to see how her sister would tolerate them, |
22 |
| then researched her ailments, interviewed various dietitians |
|

| and medical professionals, compiled lists of nonirritating |
2 |
| foods, and recruited volunteer taste-testers for her recipes, a |
3 |
| daunting task that Ms. McGlynn pursued with great vigor; and
|

| WHEREAS, As a State honoree, Kathleen McGlynn will receive |
5 |
| $1000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense paid |
6 |
| trip to Washington, D.C. to take part in several national |
7 |
| recognition events; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength |
9 |
| of this State's communities, and the overall vitality of our |
10 |
| society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young |
11 |
| people like Kathleen McGlynn, who use their considerable |
12 |
| talents and resources to serve others; therefore, be it
|
13 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
14 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
15 |
| congratulate Kathleen McGlynn on the occasion of receiving a |
16 |
| 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognize her |
17 |
| outstanding volunteer work, and wish her continued success and |
18 |
| happiness in the future; and be it further
|
19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 |
| presented to Kathleen McGlynn as a symbol of our esteem and |
21 |
| respect.
