| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are |
3 |
| pleased to congratulate the members of West Suburban Access |
4 |
| News Association on the occasion of having over 100,000 |
5 |
| visitors to their website, WSANA.org; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The West Suburban Access News Association is a |
7 |
| not-for-profit corporation that maintains a web site with |
8 |
| information for persons with disabilities, their families, |
9 |
| friends, and other interested persons; the organization was |
10 |
| founded in 2001; from 2001 until 2005, when their website |
11 |
| appeared, the corporation mailed monthly newsletters to its |
12 |
| members; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, The West Suburban Access News Association's |
14 |
| mission is to provide information that will allow individuals |
15 |
| with disabilities to live independently in and contribute to |
16 |
| the community in which they live; such information includes |
17 |
| human and legal rights of individuals with disabilities that |
18 |
| equal access to programs, as well as increasing awareness of |
19 |
| special services aimed at assisting individuals with |
20 |
| disabilities; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the West Suburban Access News |
22 |
| Association routinely meet with civic and governmental |
|

| officials to create a better environment for persons with |
2 |
| disabilities who live independently; in December of 2006, WSANA |
3 |
| addressed the Oak Park Village Board regarding accessibility on |
4 |
| sidewalks of persons in wheelchairs and mobility devices; as a |
5 |
| result of those talks, the Oak Park Village Board passed an |
6 |
| amendment to an existing ordinance on February 20, 2007 which |
7 |
| now requires that sidewalks be shoveled within 24 hours after a |
8 |
| snowstorm; WSANA has also established a working relationship |
9 |
| with executive Mr. Ollie Cantos, Special Counsel to the |
10 |
| Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. |
11 |
| Department of Justice, the department which investigates |
12 |
| violations of ADA and the Fair Housing Act; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Since its inception in September of 2005, the West |
14 |
| Suburban Access News Association's website, WSANA.org, has |
15 |
| grown to over 225 pages, with 98,796 total visitors; having |
16 |
| developed a sterling reputation for fast, easy-to-understand, |
17 |
| and reliable information on their website, WSANA.org has become |
18 |
| a major outlet for news and information on matters of concern |
19 |
| to individuals with disabilities; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, The outstanding work that the West Suburban Access |
21 |
| News Association has done on the behalf of individuals with |
22 |
| disabilities is worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be |
23 |
| it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

| congratulate the members of West Suburban Access News |
4 |
| Association on the occasion of having over 100,000 visitors to |
5 |
| their website and wish them continued success in the future; |
6 |
| and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |

| presented to the West Suburban Access News Association as a |
9 |
| symbol of our esteem and respect.
