2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the | ||||||
4 | Hersey High School Band in Arlington Heights on the occasion of | ||||||
5 | being the recipient of the Sudler Flag of Honor award from the | ||||||
6 | John Philip Sousa Foundation; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The John Philip Sousa Foundation's Flag of Honor | ||||||
8 | program is designed to identify and recognize high school Wind | ||||||
9 | Band and Symphony Band programs of very special excellence at | ||||||
10 | the international level; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Sudler Flag of Honor award is the highest | ||||||
12 | recognition of excellence in a concert performance that can be | ||||||
13 | bestowed upon a high school band; to be nominated for the | ||||||
14 | Sudler Flag of Honor, a high school band must maintain a fine | ||||||
15 | performing organization over a number of years, including a | ||||||
16 | concert program, a marching band, small ensembles, and solo | ||||||
17 | participation by its members in contest-festival | ||||||
18 | opportunities; in addition, the band's conductor must have been | ||||||
19 | the conductor of the band for at least seven consecutive years, | ||||||
20 | including the year of the award, and must have involved with | ||||||
21 | professional band organizations and activities at the local, | ||||||
22 | State, and national levels; in its 26 years of existence, only | ||||||
23 | 51 bands in the United States, Canada, and Japan have received |

1 | this prestigious award; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Hersey High School Band was one of only two | ||||||
3 | high school concert bands to receive the Sudler Flag of Honor | ||||||
4 | award in 2007, a wonderful indication of the band's talent, | ||||||
5 | organization, and great effort; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In honor of this fine achievement, the Hersey High | ||||||
7 | School Band will be presented with a red, white, and blue | ||||||
8 | four-by-six foot "Flag of Honor" bearing the symbol of the John | ||||||
9 | Philip Sousa Foundation, a personalized plaque for the band, | ||||||
10 | and a personalized diploma for each member of the band; these | ||||||
11 | prizes will be given to the band by a member of the John Philip | ||||||
12 | Sousa Foundation during a concert on May 14, 2008 in the Hersey | ||||||
13 | High School Theater in Arlington Heights; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate the members of the Hersey High School Band in | ||||||
17 | Arlington Heights on the occasion of being the recipient of the | ||||||
18 | Sudler Flag of Honor award and wish them continued success and | ||||||
19 | happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Hersey High School Band conductor Scott Casagrande | ||||||
22 | as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
