HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The government urges residents to seek shelter in 
3
a safe place during severe weather and natural disasters, 
4
including recent ice storms and flooding; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Electricians of the International Brotherhood of 
6
Electric Workers (IBEW) brave  these hazardous conditions, 
7
working to restore power and protect the public from the 
8
threats posed by severe weather, such as severed power lines; 
9
and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Electrical power is one of the most indispensable 
11
services Illinoisans rely on in their day to day life and is 
12
particularly vital to the success of disaster recovery efforts; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, IBEW electricians frequently work in perilous 
15
conditions to restore power and resolve potentially 
16
life-threatening situations, providing emergency workers with 
17
safer conditions for rescue attempts and speeding up disaster 
18
recovery efforts; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, IBEW electricians deserve respect and 
20
appreciation for the immense risks they take while serving 
21
Illinois communities during severe weather and times of crisis;

    WHEREAS, Southern Illinois was recently savaged by four 
3
separate winter storms, and calamity was avoided in part due to 
4
the diligent and, in some instances, heroic conduct of the 
5
4,000 members of IBEW 702, which is located in West Frankfort 
6
and serves thousands of residents in Southern and Central 
7
Illinois, Southern Indiana, and Southeastern Missouri; 
8
therefore, be it

 
9
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11
recognize the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 
12
for their dedicated service to their communities and honor them 
13
for their diligent efforts to restore power for the citizens of 
14
Illinois in dangerous conditions; and be it further

 
15
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16
presented to a representative of the International Brotherhood 
17
of Electrical Workers as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
