HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Bryant Cureton
4 and his wife, Jeanette, as they depart Elmhurst College after
5 fourteen years of service to the College and community; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Bryant L. Cureton has served Elmhurst College as
7 President and Professor of Political Science since 1994; as
8 Elmhurst's 12th President, he has led the College through a
9 period of significant development resulting in increased
10 academic strength, an enhanced campus, and a growing
11 reputation; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Prior to Elmhurst, Dr. Cureton taught for 23 years
13 at Hartwick College, where he also served as Associate Dean for
14 Program, Vice President and Dean of the College, and then
15 Provost; he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from
16 Maryville College, a Master of Arts degree in international
17 relations from American University, and a Ph.D. in political
18 science from the University of Pennsylvania; he also holds the
19 honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from Maryville College;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, His early experience included service in The
22 United States Marine Corps Reserve and work with the

1 International Division of The Irving Trust Company; his special
2 interest in the relationship between religion and political
3 life led to his appointment as Visiting Scholar at The Divinity
4 School of Harvard University; he has served on boards,
5 councils, and committees of numerous professional and
6 community service organizations; and
 
7     WHEREAS, On June 30, 2008, Dr. Cureton and his wife,
8 Jeanette will leave Elmhurst College; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Dr. Cureton and his wife, Jeanette (a higher
10 education researcher) live in Elmhurst; they have two
11 daughters, Elizabeth Cureton, M.D., a resident in surgery, and
12 Sarah Cureton Chinn, Ph.D., a research chemist, both in
13 California; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 congratulate Dr. Cureton and his wife for their hard work and
17 dedication to Elmhurst College and wish them continued success
18 in their future endeavors; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Dr. Bryant Cureton and Jeanette Cureton as a
21 symbol of our sincere respect.
