HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners and 
4
employees of Forest City Gear in Roscoe on the occasion of 
5
being named as one of the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 by 
6
Penton Media's American Machinist trade publication in 
7
November of 2007; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, The Ten Best Machine Shops in U.S. ranking is 
9
awarded each year by Penton Media's American Machinist 
10
publication based on a company's operating performance, 
11
measured against American Machinist's proprietary machine shop 
12
benchmarks database, interviews, and site visits, with winners 
13
recognized by the publication in November of 2007; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Forest City Gear was founded in 1955; the company 
15
specializes in aerospace, medical, military, and racing 
16
vehicles, industrial projects, power tool gearing, and various 
17
instruments; the company had total sales of $10 million in 
18
2007; and

 
19
    WHEREAS, Forest City Gear's great success is due to its 
20
philosophy of investing 20% to 40% of gross revenues in new 
21
equipment, strengthening their customer preferences and 
22
attachments to the company, selling surplus equipment, which

can lead to new gear business from the buyer, seeking 
2
long-term, not short-term, returns on investment, and 
3
cultivating a workforce that is loyal, long-term, and embraces 
4
new technology and lifelong learning; and

    WHEREAS, Forest City Gear holds the distinction of being 
6
the only machine shop in the State of Illinois to be named to 
7
the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 list; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, In response to this prestigious designation, 
9
Forest City Gear has added three jobs, bringing their total 
10
workforce to 48 employees, and has gained a new customer every 
11
week; and
 
12
    WHEREAS, Forest City Gear's designation as one of the Ten 
13
Best Machine Shops for 2007 is a testament to the integrity, 
14
dedication, and hard work of its owners and employees; 
15
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
17
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18
congratulate the owners and employees of Forest City Gear in 
19
Roscoe on the occasion of being named as one of the Ten Best 
20
Machine Shops for 2007 and wish them continued success in the 
21
future; and be it further
