2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Jackie L. | ||||||
4 | Anderson, who passed away on January 21, 2008; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson was born on September 25, 1951 in | ||||||
6 | Toledo, Ohio; her parents were Leon and Arlene Coberley; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson graduated from high school in | ||||||
8 | 1969; after high school, she started a 36 year career with | ||||||
9 | AT&T, starting as a telephone operator; she eventually worked | ||||||
10 | her way up to management level as a property manager; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In February of 2006, Jackie Anderson was diagnosed | ||||||
12 | with Stage IV lung cancer; stunned by this news due to the fact | ||||||
13 | that she never smoked a day in her life, she became an advocate | ||||||
14 | for lung cancer research, making it her mission to educate | ||||||
15 | people that cancer was an equal opportunity disease that could | ||||||
16 | affect anyone; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, To further her mission to raise awareness of | ||||||
18 | cancer, Jackie Anderson worked vigorously with Illinois State | ||||||
19 | Senator William Delgado and Illinois State Representative Luis | ||||||
20 | Arroyo and their offices to adopt Senate Joint Resolution 30 | ||||||
21 | during the 95th General Assembly; the resolution designated the |

1 | month of November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month every year in | ||||||
2 | this State; she also received a proclamation stating that she | ||||||
3 | was essential in passing a resolution to designate November as | ||||||
4 | Lung Cancer Awareness month throughout the State; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson further involved herself in | ||||||
6 | spreading the word of lung cancer awareness by participating in | ||||||
7 | numerous cancer awareness events, including Cancer Awareness | ||||||
8 | Days and Strike Out Cancer, in which she was able to throw out | ||||||
9 | the first pitch at a Chicago White Sox game; she and her family | ||||||
10 | independently raised over $3,000 for lung cancer research and | ||||||
11 | awareness; she proved to be an inspiration to all throughout | ||||||
12 | her illness; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson was selfless when it came to her | ||||||
14 | family and was a wonderful mother; her proudest moment was when | ||||||
15 | she became a loving and devoted grandmother to her grandchild, | ||||||
16 | Sofia; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson loved animals, particularly her | ||||||
18 | dogs, which were her constant companions; she enjoyed showing | ||||||
19 | her pugs at dog shows and entering dog
agility trials; one of | ||||||
20 | her greatest achievements was when one of her dogs
became a | ||||||
21 | show champion; and | ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson was the beloved mother of |

1 | Stephanie (Andy) Blake; the devoted grandmother of Sofia; and | ||||||
2 | the fond sister of Brenda (Scott) Mueller, Colleen (Doug) Hall, | ||||||
3 | and Leon (Debra) Coberley; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jackie Anderson will be remembered by all who knew | ||||||
5 | and loved her as an
amazingly independent and courageous woman; | ||||||
6 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
9 | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Jackie | ||||||
10 | L. Anderson; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Jackie L. Anderson as an expression | ||||||
13 | of our sympathy.
