HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Rotary Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary on March 18, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Today, in more than 32,000 local Rotary Clubs in cities and towns of all sizes in more than 200 countries, over 1.2 million Rotarians are working to improve the quality of life in their communities; and

WHEREAS, Rotary began with the first Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905 as an organization to render "Service Above Self" to the City in which it was founded; and

WHEREAS, Rotarians, through Rotary International, render humanitarian services all over the world and promote good will and understanding among all peoples; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Rotary Club, representing a cross section of business and professional leadership, has been active in promoting the physical, industrial, and cultural improvement of our community for 90 years; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Rotary Club has raised over $1 million toward community organizations, projects, and activities over the past 90 years; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Rotary Club has had an active involvement in the operation of the historic Big Eli #17 Ferris Wheel, which has come to be a symbol of the Jacksonville community, for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Rotary Club has hosted and sponsored many youth exchange students and Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange teams and ambassadorial scholars; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and congratulate the members of the Jacksonville Rotary Club on their 90th anniversary and wish them continued success in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Jacksonville Rotary Club as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
