2 | WHEREAS, Baxter International Inc. is a global diversified | ||||||
3 | healthcare company that applies innovative science to develop | ||||||
4 | biotechnology products, specialty therapeutics and medical | ||||||
5 | devices that save and sustain patients' lives; Baxter makes a | ||||||
6 | meaningful difference for people with end-stage kidney | ||||||
7 | disease, hemophilia, immune disorders, trauma, and other | ||||||
8 | chronic conditions around the world; based in Deerfield, | ||||||
9 | Illinois, Baxter employs 5,000 Illinois residents and 46,500 | ||||||
10 | people around the world; Baxter manufactures products in 14 | ||||||
11 | U.S. locations, as well as in 26 countries; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Baxter sells its therapies in more than 100 | ||||||
13 | countries, with more than half of its sales coming from outside | ||||||

4 | achieved carbon-neutral status, effective April 2007; Baxter | ||||||
5 | was the first company to help validate agricultural carbon | ||||||
6 | credits by purchasing carbon credits offered by Illinois | ||||||
7 | farmers and landowners through the Illinois Conservation and | ||||||
8 | Climate Initiative; in addition, the International Carbon | ||||||
9 | Disclosure Project named Baxter to its 2007 Climate Disclosure | ||||||
10 | Leadership Index under its 5th Survey of FT500 Corporate | ||||||
11 | Approaches to Climate Change; and

12 | WHEREAS, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | ||||||
13 | recognized Baxter on its Fortune 500 Green Power Partner | ||||||
14 | Challenge list; in 2007, Baxter launched AVIVA, a new non-PVC, | ||||||
15 | non-latex medical IV solution container that carries the | ||||||
16 | Green-e label, indicating the electricity used to produce these | ||||||
17 | containers is offset by 100 percent Green-e certified renewable | ||||||
18 | energy; in addition to its leadership in climate change, Baxter | ||||||
19 | strives to conserve water and uses this resource as efficiently | ||||||
20 | as possible in its products and operations, and is enhancing | ||||||
21 | its water conservation, reuse, and wastewater treatment | ||||||
22 | capabilities worldwide; therefore, be it

23 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
