HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives wish to congratulate Amy Skeen, Executive 
4
Director of Girls in the Game (GIG), on being honored by the 
5
National Council of Youth Sports as the recipient of the 2007 
6
Hershey's STRIVE (Sports Teach Respect, Initiative, Values and 
7
Excellence) Local Youth Sports Administrator of the Year; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Girls in the Game is a non-profit organization 
9
that encourages girls in the Chicago area to participate in 
10
sports activities for better health and fitness; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Girls in the Game offers an assortment of sports 
12
and health programs for girls, including an after-school 
13
program in 20 high-need sites, a five-week summer camp, a 
14
community outreach program, and a parent train-the-trainer 
15
initiative; and

    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Amy Skeen, the budget for 
17
Girls in the Game has more than tripled in the last four years; 
18
the program has been acknowledged by Chicago Mayor Richard M. 
19
Daley for its outstanding service to the community and 
20
award-winning programming; and

    WHEREAS, STRIVE honors adult leaders for their "heartfelt

passion, enthusiastic commitment, and contagious spirit to 
2
help kids succeed in youth sports activities; therefore, be it

 
3
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
congratulate Amy Skeen on this honor and wish her continued 
6
success in the future; and be it further

 
7
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8
presented to Amy Skeen as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
