HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Cargill is an international provider of food,
3 agricultural, and risk management products and services, with
4 149,000 employees in 63 countries; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Cargill contributes more than $36 million
6 globally to civic and charitable organizations each year to
7 help the communities where its employees live and work; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The Cargill Grain Company of Illinois was formed
9 in 1931 and provides nearly 3,000 Illinois jobs in 26
10 communities throughout the State; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Cargill is a leading sponsor of Farm Safety 4 Just
12 Kids and supports 4-H Healthy Lifestyles; the company has
13 received the Illinois 4-H Partners Award for its ongoing
14 support of 4-H groups throughout Illinois; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Cargill has awarded more than $300,000 in
16 scholarships to more than 130 Illinois students; the company
17 has also committed more than $1 million to the University of
18 Illinois for academic programs in agriculture, engineering,
19 and business; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Cargill has pledged $150,000 to Beardstown High

1 School for new science labs in the effort to bring science
2 curriculum to local students; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Cargill offers English as a Second Language
4 classes to its employees and their families through its
5 partnership with Lincoln Land Community College; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Cargill has donated more than $700,000 to
7 charities and communities throughout Illinois, including a new
8 dispatch center for the police department in Beardstown,
9 building homes for Habitat for Humanity, and contributions to
10 United Way organizations throughout Illinois; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Cargill businesses along the Mississippi and
12 Illinois Rivers have supported Living Lands and Waters, an
13 organization aimed at preserving the banks of the nation's
14 rivers by volunteering time and financial resources; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Cargill is committed to reducing solid waste;
16 Cargill Pork in Beardstown has reduced the amount of waste they
17 send to landfills in Illinois by 58%, or 2.7 million pounds per
18 year, by developing a process to turn the solid waste into
19 compost; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 hereby designate February 26, 2008 as Cargill Day in the State
2 of Illinois; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Cargill, Inc. as a symbol of our esteem and
5 respect.
