HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, There is no official statewide data on the number
3 of pupils in schools in this State who require health
4 assistance for chronic and acute health conditions during the
5 school day or at school-related activities, such as field trips
6 and school-related camps; and
 
7     WHEREAS, It is our intent to phase in funding, based on
8 documented need, for credentialed school nurses and, by the
9 year 2017, mandate a ratio of one credentialed school nurse for
10 every 1,500 pupils for all public schools; and
 
11     WHEREAS, As a result of this phased-in funding for
12 credentialed school nurses, the following measurable results
13 will be demonstrated:
14         (1) fewer pupils will miss days of school due to
15     illness;
16         (2) parents and families will receive regular and
17     documented information concerning preventive health care
18     and communicable diseases; and
19         (3) templates will be developed to enable school-site
20     health centers to serve as neighborhood disaster centers;
21     therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 respectfully request that the State Board of Education study
3 and compile statewide data on school nurses and report its
4 findings and recommendations to the General Assembly, with the
5 goal of providing phased-in funding for credential school
6 nurses and, by the year 2017, mandating a ratio of one
7 credentialed school nurse for every 1,500 pupils for all public
8 schools; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 delivered to the State Board of Education.
