| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate William D. "Bill" |
4 |
| Gainer on the occasion of his retirement from AT&T Illinois |
5 |
| after more than 47 years of service; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer began his long and |
7 |
| distinguished career in 1960, when he joined Illinois Bell |
8 |
| Telephone as a lineman; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, During William D. "Bill" Gainer's career, |
10 |
| Illinois Bell became Ameritech, which became SBC and, now, |
11 |
| AT&T; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Over more than four-and-a-half decades of |
13 |
| service, William D. "Bill" Gainer has exhibited the integrity, |
14 |
| diligence, intelligence, strength, and commitment that have |
15 |
| made him an outstanding example of leadership in his |
16 |
| profession; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer worked his way up through |
18 |
| the ranks in various positions in Construction, Operations, |
19 |
| Installation and Repair, Marketing, Network Coordination and |
20 |
| Planning, Business Relations, and Inter-Company Coordination; |
21 |
| and
|

| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer's vast knowledge and |
2 |
| experience of the company became invaluable as he served as |
3 |
| Director of Government Relations, representing the company to |
4 |
| the Chicago City Council and the Cook County Board; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, As Director of Government Relations, William D. |
6 |
| "Bill" Gainer played an influential role in overseeing many of |
7 |
| the biggest events in Chicago that required coordination with |
8 |
| the telephone company, including the 1994 World Cup and the |
9 |
| 1996 Democratic National Convention; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, In addition to his highly successful career in the |
11 |
| telecommunications industry, William D. "Bill" Gainer enjoys a |
12 |
| distinguished resume of public service and charitable |
13 |
| organizational work; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer is the Chair of the |
15 |
| Business Development Committee for the Cook County Irish Trade |
16 |
| Mission to County Down and County Cork and has worked closely |
17 |
| with the Cook County Economic Development Project Director and |
18 |
| the Cook County Assessor on many of the County Trade Mission |
19 |
| initiatives; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed William |
21 |
| D. "Bill" Gainer to be the Chair of the Chicago Sister Cities |

| International Program-Galway Committee in 2001; and |
2 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer serves on the board of |
3 |
| directors for Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, the Veterans |
4 |
| Leadership Program, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, the |
5 |
| Convention and Tourism Bureau, and the Irish American Alliance; |
6 |
| and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer is on the Advisory Board |
8 |
| for Misericordia Heart of Mercy and the Executive Board of the |
9 |
| South Side Irish Parade Committee; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, William D. "Bill" Gainer and his wife, Gerri, are |
11 |
| the proud parents of six children, Bridget, Nora, Maureen, |
12 |
| Mary, Sheila, and Billy, and grandparents to four |
13 |
| grandchildren, Finbar, Lilly, Noreen, and Mary; therefore, be |
14 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 |
| congratulate William D. "Bill" Gainer on the occasion of his |
18 |
| retirement and extend to this exemplary citizen our very best |
19 |
| wishes for continued good health, success, and happiness in the |
20 |
| future; and be it further
