HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate David Eanes, Director of Bands at Thornridge High School in Dolton, on receiving a Golden Apple Award for Teaching; and

WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana; he received his Master of Arts degree from Vander Cook College in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, He received a full Essential Ellington Band Director's Academy Scholarship in 2001, and was an Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Director in 2000; he was a nominee for the Disney's American Teacher Award in 1999, the Golden Apple Award in 1995, 1998, and 2001, and has received numerous other awards and accolades during his career; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Eanes is a member of the Illinois Music Educators Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the International Association of Jazz Educators, and the Illinois Education Association; and

WHEREAS, He began his career at St. Helena of the Cross in Chicago; he later served as Director of Bands at Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago for ten years; while at Mendel he was director of Mayor Daley's Summer Musical Youth Employment Program for six years; the group performed musicals that included The Wiz, Cabaret, Chorus Line, and Westside Story; and

WHEREAS, He has served at Thornridge High School for over twenty years; in 2001 he was presented the outstanding teacher's award from the Thornridge High School District 205's Board of Education and the Walmart Corporation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate David Eanes and wish him continued success in teaching and inspiring the students of Thornridge High School; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to David Eanes as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
