HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ephesians M.B.
4 Church pastor Reverend Norris Freeman Flannigan on the occasion
5 of his 70th birthday on February 17, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan was born on February 17,
7 1938; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan accepted his call to the
9 ministry on January 26, 1976; he received his certificate for
10 ordination on April 22, 1976; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan attended the Chicago
12 Baptist Institute under the teaching of the late Dr. J.P.
13 Gordon from 1977 until 1980; he attended school in Nashville,
14 Tennessee, where he was awarded a certificate for teaching from
15 the Sunday School Publishing Board; he was awarded his
16 certificate as an instructor for Christian education through
17 the Baptist State Congress; and he has taught, lectured, and
18 attended many workshops through the State of Illinois; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In 1977, the Mount Olive Baptist Church of Loves
20 Park called Reverend Norris Flannigan to serve as pastor; he
21 served there until 1982; in September of 1982, he organized the

1 Ephesians M.B. Church, where he serves to this day; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan served as the President
3 of the Rockford Minister Fellowship for 6 years; he was the
4 President of the Gathering Place, a daycare center for senior
5 citizens, for 2 years; he served as the moderator for the
6 Rockford and Vicinity District Association from 1994 until
7 1998; he also assisted in organizing the Neighborhood Watch
8 program for his community at his church; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan has been the recipient
10 of many awards in recognition of his service to the community;
11 he was the recipient of the Unlimited Achievement Award on
12 November 20, 2006; and he received a reward from the Baptist
13 State Convention on February 22, 1997 for his many religious
14 works; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Reverend Norris Flannigan is married to Jessie; he
16 has 8 children and 19 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 congratulate Reverend Norris Freeman Flannigan on the occasion
20 of his 70th birthday; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
