| WHEREAS, On February 6, 1928, the "International Hod |

| Carriers and Building Laborers' Union of America" chartered the |
4 |
| Local 751 Laborers' Union in Kankakee; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The Laborers' Union was started and built by |
6 |
| immigrants and minorities; today, they continue to be the |
7 |
| fastest growing segment of the Union's membership; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, In 1965, the Laborers' Union officially changed |
9 |
| its name to the "Laborers' International Union of North |
10 |
| America" to better reflect the continual expansion of the union |
11 |
| beyond the construction field; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, For 80 years, Laborers' Local 751 has played a |
13 |
| vital role in building the City of Kankakee by constructing |
14 |
| highways, bridges, tunnels, dams, power plants, factories, |
15 |
| office buildings, schools, churches, hospitals, houses, and |
16 |
| apartment buildings; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Laborers' Local 751 is an extraordinary union |
18 |
| whose leadership has worked hard for 80 years to protect its |
19 |
| members' health and safety, to provide laborers a strong voice |
20 |
| in the workplace and extensive skill training designed to |
21 |
| empower its members to reach their potential, and, perhaps most |
