| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Joan |
4 |
| Greene, who passed away on January 5, 2008; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Joan Greene was born on October 30, 1940 in |
6 |
| Baltimore, Maryland; her parents were John and Edith Distance; |
7 |
| she married Elliotte Emmanuel Greene II in 1959 in Alexandria, |
8 |
| Virginia; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Joan Greene attended public school in Baltimore, |
10 |
| where she discovered and developed her musical and artistic |
11 |
| talents; she was the first African American to be awarded a |
12 |
| full scholarship to the famous Peabody Institute; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Joan Greene was a full-time wife and mother for |
14 |
| many years; she was a loyal employee of the Social Security |
15 |
| Administration for 33 years, being promoted to the position of |
16 |
| Legal Assistant; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Joan Greene had an extensive background in musical |
18 |
| performance; she performed at the Standard Club and the Chicago |
19 |
| Symphony Orchestra on many occasions; she was a performing |
20 |
| member of the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus and The Chicago's |
21 |
| Experimental Black Actor's Guild "X-Bag" Theatre; and
|

| WHEREAS, Joan Greene was an active member of many civic |

| organizations, including the Ausar Auset Society, the Temple of |
3 |
| African Community of Chicago, The National Black United Front's |
4 |
| Chicago chapter, Accounters Center of Faith, and Community |
5 |
| Outreach; she was an Elder and board member of Ile Okun Inu, |
6 |
| NFP; and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, Joan Greene is survived by her daughters, Melanie |
8 |
| Greene, Judith Braynen, and Karen (Bashaan) Prewitt; her sons, |
9 |
| Patrick Greene and Elliotte (Esmerelda) Greene III; her |
10 |
| grandchildren, Erica Braynen, Bianca Greene, Zachary Greene, |
11 |
| Patrick (PJ) Greene Jr., Chloe Braynen, Joshua Braynen, Gianni |
12 |
| Greene, Symone Prewitt, Hayden Braynen, and Jillian Greene; her |
13 |
| spiritual family, Darlene Williams, Talibah Worrill, Victoria |
14 |
| Snow, Billye Wilson, Art Williams, Ron Williams, Carol |
15 |
| Williams, Brooks, Paula Harris, Dawn Roberts, Seeyen Hughley, |
16 |
| Andrea Williams, Koya Odum, Kimberley Aisha King, Nova Smith, |

| and Jermaine Brooks; and her long-time friends, Martha Lowery |

| and Elizabeth Frierson; and

| WHEREAS, Joan Greene will be remembered by all who knew and |

| loved her as a loving and humorous person with a contagious |
21 |
| smile; therefore, be it
