2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the organizers and | ||||||
4 | performers of the Chinese New Year Spectacular for their work | ||||||
5 | in the Chinese fine arts; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year Spectacular is an event | ||||||
7 | sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television that celebrates the | ||||||
8 | Chinese New Year and shows appreciation for traditional Chinese | ||||||
9 | culture and art; the performance features world-class | ||||||
10 | performances of traditional Chinese and Western artistry, | ||||||
11 | transporting the audience back in time to ancient China with | ||||||
12 | colorful costumes, graceful dancing, and booming drums to bring | ||||||
13 | Chinese myths and legends to life; the aim of the performers | ||||||
14 | and organizers is to show the true spirit of the Chinese | ||||||
15 | culture expressed in the forms of classical performing arts, | ||||||
16 | giving people around the world a deeper understanding and | ||||||
17 | connection to the Chinese culture; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year Spectacular was started in | ||||||
19 | 2004, with 500 performers and a live audience totaling 10,000 | ||||||
20 | in the cities of New York City, Washington D.C., Taipei, Paris, | ||||||
21 | and Toronto; the 2005 performance featured 1,000 performers and | ||||||
22 | a live audience of 13,500 in 7 cities; in 2006, over 1,000 | ||||||
23 | performers performed for over 46,000 spectators in 17 major |

1 | cities around the globe; the 2007 performance was held in more | ||||||
2 | than 30 cities worldwide; the 2008 global tour will perform in | ||||||
3 | over 60 major cities around the world for over 500,000 | ||||||
4 | spectators; and

5 | WHEREAS, Over 400 global and local leaders, including | ||||||
6 | President George Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, | ||||||
7 | Taiwanese President Chen Shui-Bian, and Vice President of the | ||||||
8 | European Parliament Charlotte Cederschiold, have extended | ||||||
9 | their New Year greetings to the Chinese-speaking population | ||||||
10 | during the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Chinese New Year Global Galas; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The dedication exhibited by the performers and | ||||||
13 | organizers of the Chinese New Year Spectacular to display the | ||||||
14 | beauty and grandeur of Chinese art and culture to audiences | ||||||
15 | around the world is awe-inspiring and is worthy of the greatest | ||||||
16 | respect; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | congratulate the organizers and performers of the Chinese New | ||||||
20 | Year Spectacular for their hard work and dedication to their | ||||||
21 | craft and wish them continued success and happiness in the | ||||||
22 | future; and be it further
