2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gwen Lee on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her retirement as Thornridge High School's | ||||||
5 | Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and | ||||||
6 | Professional Development, Director of Special Education, and | ||||||
7 | District Coordinator for Small Learning Communities; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee earned her doctorate from Loyola | ||||||
9 | University in Chicago; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee began her education career as a high | ||||||
11 | school social studies teacher at Thornridge High School; she | ||||||
12 | went on to serve as a Dean of Students for 4 years, then as an | ||||||
13 | Assistant Principal at Thornridge for 9 years; in 1992, Gwen | ||||||
14 | Lee became Principal of Hillcrest High School, where she served | ||||||
15 | diligently until 1994, when she accepted a position as | ||||||
16 | Principal of Thornridge High School; she served as principal of | ||||||
17 | Thornridge until 1999, when she was promoted to the position of | ||||||
18 | Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and | ||||||
19 | Professional Development, where she remained until her | ||||||
20 | retirement; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee has served in various other educational | ||||||
22 | institutions; she serves as an adjunct faculty member at |

| |||||||
1 | Governors State University and National Louis University; she | ||||||
2 | has also served as an Educational Consultant and Evaluator for | ||||||
3 | the Bill & Melinda Gates Challenge Grants for Leadership and as | ||||||
4 | a National Consultant for The National Staff Development | ||||||
5 | Council; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee has been the recipient of many awards in | ||||||
7 | recognition of her accomplishments; she was named Principal of | ||||||
8 | the Year for the State of Illinois in 1998 and Administrator of | ||||||
9 | the Year in 2003; she has also been the recipient of the Dare | ||||||
10 | to Be Great Women in Leadership Award and the Outstanding | ||||||
11 | Secondary Educator in America honors; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee has been an active participant in The | ||||||
13 | Links, Incorporated for over 30 years; she is a charter member | ||||||
14 | of the organization's South Suburban Chicago Chapter and has | ||||||
15 | served in many prestigious national posts within the | ||||||
16 | organization, including National Member-at-Large, National | ||||||
17 | Nominating Committee Chairperson, National Trends and Services | ||||||
18 | Director, National Recording Secretary, and National | ||||||
19 | Vice-President; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Gwen Lee's dedication to her profession and her | ||||||
21 | willingness to serve her community make her a model for the | ||||||
22 | people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | congratulate Gwen Lee on the occasion of her retirement and | ||||||
4 | wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be | ||||||
5 | it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Gwen Lee as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
