HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards were given out on
3 November 27, 2007 at an awards banquet at the Crowne Plaza in
4 Springfield; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The City of McLeansboro received a Governor's Home
6 Town Award and the coveted Governor's Cup Award for youth
7 involvement for their Kids' Kingdom Playground and Park; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In June of 2006, the citizens of the City of
9 McLeansboro came together to accomplish the challenging task of
10 transforming a small park in the city into a child-friendly
11 area now known as Kids' Kingdom; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Citizens and local leaders worked together to
13 build the Kids' Kingdom, with McLeansboro Mayor Dick Deitz
14 working with the project's architect to create a perfect
15 playground for the children of McLeansboro; a generous donation
16 from The Bobbye and Jerry Sloan Hand in Hand Association
17 provided sufficient funding for the project; and
 
18     WHEREAS, After a 6-month planning period and the
19 procurement of materials were finished, volunteers numbering
20 in the hundreds came together to construct the park in an
21 incredible 5 days; the project's ribbon-cutting ceremony took

1 place on a Sunday evening to celebrate the commencement of this
2 worthwhile project; and
 
3     WHEREAS, In addition to the road sign and plaque given to
4 winners of the Governor's Home Town Award, the citizens of the
5 City of McLeansboro received a unique road sign proclaiming its
6 status as the overall winner of the competition; therefore, be
7 it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate the citizens of the City of McLeansboro on the
11 occasion of winning the 2007 Governor's Cup and wish them
12 continued success and happiness in the future; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to McLeansboro Mayor Dick Deitz as a symbol of our
16 esteem and respect.
