HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of First
4 Lady Mother Georgia Washington of Rockford, who passed away on
5 November 30, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was born on March 17, 1943, in Smithson,
7 Arkansas, the daughter of Earnie Mae and Warren Lovett; her
8 family relocated to Rockford in March 1945; she was reared by
9 R.C. McGee; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She united with the St. Paul Church of God in
11 Christ and served as Sunday School secretary and became the
12 choir director at the age of 17; she also served as a member of
13 the District, Jurisdictional, and National choirs; Mrs.
14 Washington was the co-founder of the St. Paul Academy and Hands
15 that Help, Incorporated; most recently she served as St. Paul
16 Church of God in Christ, Supervisor of Women, Director of
17 Missions, President of the Mount Calvary District Pastor's and
18 Minister's Wives; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was a 1961 graduate of West High
20 School and attended vocational school and became a keypunch
21 verifier and sorter; her first job was at National Lock as a
22 technologist; she successfully completed the civil service

1 examination and was hired by School District 205 in the data
2 processing department; Mrs. Washington was awarded an
3 Associate in Child Development and was a teacher at St. Paul
4 Academy; and
 
5     WHEREAS, On January 6, 1962, Mr. James E. Washington took
6 Georgia M. Lovett to be his lawfully wedded wife, providing St.
7 Paul Church of God in Christ with its first wedding ceremony;
8 they were united by the late Bishop Freeman Guy Green; and
 
9     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her fathers, Warren
10 Lovett and R.C. McGee; her grandparents, Earnest and Hattie
11 Browning; and her brother, Albert C. Livingston; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Georgia Washington is survived by her husband of
13 46 years, Bishop James E. Washington; her daughter, Yolanda
14 Lynn Washington (Stan) Penix; her son, Elder Vincent (Tomika)
15 Washington; her mother, Earnie McGee; her brothers, Dante
16 Bevineau, Jerry Lovett, and Mark Lovett; her stepmother, Eloise
17 Lovett; her seven grandchildren; her two special children; her
18 many godchildren, and her friends and family members;
19 therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of First

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of First Lady Mother Georgia Washington
4 as an expression of our sympathy.
