HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois
4 National Guard Specialist Ashley Sietsema of DeKalb, who passed
5 away on November 12, 2007 in Kuwait; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema was born on September 14,
7 1987 in Chicago; she was the daughter of Olivia Segura; she
8 married Max W. Sietsema on April 27, 2007 in River Grove; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema graduated from East Leyden
10 High School in Franklin Park in 2005; she attended Northern
11 Illinois University for one semester, where she was pursuing a
12 nursing degree; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema enlisted in the Illinois Army
14 National Guard in December of 2004; after training at Fort
15 Jackson in South Carolina and Fort Sam Houston in Texas, she
16 was assigned to the 708th Medical Company in North Riverside,
17 where she served as a health care specialist and ambulance
18 driver; on September 3, 2007, she was sent to Kuwait in support
19 of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where she served until her passing;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema enjoyed teaching Bible

1 classes and helping with community service projects in any way
2 she could; she was described as an individual who wanted to
3 help people and who looked for the positives in others; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema was well known for her
5 generosity to those in need and her compassion and dedication
6 to her family and her fellow soldiers and who lost her life
7 trying to save another soldier; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Spc. Ashley Sietsema is survived by her husband,
9 Max; her mother, Olivia (Alberto) Segura; her grandmother,
10 Florina Rebolledo; her brother, Kyle Segura; and her aunts,
11 Florina Alvarez and Nadia Alvarez; and
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 mourn the passing of National Guard Specialist Ashley Sietsema;
15 and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Specialist Ashley
17 Sietsema and her willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice in
18 service of her country; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Ashley Sietsema as an expression of
21 our sympathy.
